Landworks was retained by the Champlain Valley Greenbelt Alliance to undertake a landscape and land development inventory and analysis along the Route 7 corridor in Addison County. As part of this effort, we also prepared case studies and defined a number of planning principles that can be considered and applied to facilitate appropriate landscape planning and land development patterns in the corridor. This study culminated in the development of the booklet “The View From the Road ~ Patterns, Principles and Guidelines for Roadscape Design” for the Route 7 Corridor. In addition to a brief written history of the highway, this booklet reviews and illustrates principles of appropriate planning – addressing hedgerows, roadside trees, viewsheds, transmission corridors, utility infrastructure, lawn alternatives, access management, site planning and land use, signs, roadside elements, swales and shoulders and historic architecture.
