The design incorporated an environmental art "footprint"

The design incorporated an environmental art "footprint"

As one of the first projects LandWorks was commissioned to undertake after its founding in 1986,  Wells Fountain Park presented many opportunities and challenges in park planning and design. Restoring the site after its former use as a service center, and providing a foreground for the District Courthouse were two of those challenges.  The historic fountain itself was also relocated as part of this project.  LandWorks became part of committee, that, with the support of the Vermont Council on the Arts, selected environmental artist Malcolm Cochran, who recreated the “footprint” of the original home on the site, which was the residence at one time of the benefactors of the fountain.  We worked closely with Brattleboro citizens and officials on the final design and details of the park.  We collaborated with the artist on the design treatments and placement of the artwork, solved challenges with regard to accessibility on the site and worked with the town to oversee the construction phase of the project, which included benches, lighting, walkways and landscaping, as well as the public art piece.
