Bethel, ME Wayfinding

In 2012, LandWorks was retained by the Town of Bethel, Maine to develop a comprehensive signage system that would address a number of issues for the Town. Its vibrant village area, not located on a primary route, was being bypassed as visitors made their way to nearby destinations, including the Sunday River Resort. Also, over the years, business signage had begun to clutter the roadways and was unorganized. The Town sought to create a new system that would meet Maine DOT and MUTCD standards, that would have support from the community, including business owners, and would support the Village of Bethel as a destination in and of itself.

LandWorks worked with the Sign Ordinance Committee to draft a new ordinance that would effectively address the Town’s concerns, and would be viable for guiding development of the sign system in the future. We also worked closely with the Town and Committee to create a new logo for the Town, reinforcing its brand, which was incorporated into all of the proposed signs (gateway, pedestrian, vehicular, and banners) as well as kiosks.
