Danville Transportation Enhancements
In an innovative project sponsored by a collaboration of the Vermont Arts Council and Vermont Agency of Transportation, LandWorks was selected by a committee of local citizens and officials to undertake a village enhancement effort that included streetscape and village green improvements with a focus on public art and aesthetics. The goal of the project was to enhance the essence of the small, rural community by providing a safe, attractive and comfortable pedestrian environment in the village, while celebrating its unique historic, built and natural features. The challenge of the project was to upgrade road conditions through the village by meeting Federal Highway System requirements to provide better sight lines and improved vehicular and pedestrian safety while respecting the aesthetic and socio-economic fabric of the community. The process was collaborative in nature and drew on time-honored Vermont traditions of public meetings, civil discourse and representative democracy. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Summer 2011 and construction was substantially complete in Fall 2013.
