Mountain Village Charter School
In collaboration with a team of architects and civil engineers, LandWorks developed a Master Plan for a public, nature-based Montessori school in Plymouth, New Hampshire. The property presented a number of challenges that the site plan effectively addressed, including a relatively steep, north-facing site, spatial constraints, and a desire to maintain existing school operations and infrastructure (in a temporary building) where possible during construction. The property also presented exciting opportunities to support the school’s mission of providing nature-based learning, and LandWorks proposed four outdoor zones with specific design/management objectives, which would progress from the highly ordered indoor classroom to the wilder natural environment. LandWorks led a number of workshops and interviews to ensure that the insights of parents, teachers, and students alike were reflected in the design proposals. The school is currently pursuing grants and fundraising in order to support the next phase of project development, as well as construction.
