Saratoga Technology + Energy Park Wayfinding

LandWorks was retained by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to develop a new gateway and a comprehensive wayfinding system for the Saratoga Technology + Energy Park (STEP), located on a 280 acre campus in New York’s Tech Valley, near Saratoga Springs. With 1.25 million square feet of space housing clean energy and environmental technology companies, the wayfinding program was designed guide visitors from the Interstate to their office destination within the individual buildings. One of the primary charges of the program was to develop contextual designs derivative of the Adirondack environment and to employ LEED methodologies to create a sustainable sign and information system. To this end, local materials and innovative new technologies were integrated into the project design with considerations that ranged from solar power to the use of the local forest resource. Final installed system includes an internally lit gateway that incorporates native stone walls and landscaping, along with several initial entry and identification signs.

As a separate phase of work, LandWorks developed a Wayfinding Plan and Design Standards guide to accompany the wayfinding system and provide guidance for future signage additions and maintenance.
